Summary
According to Szczeÿniak (1958), the translation was made by Johann Christian Koppe. However, Koppe was a bookseller and is indicated as the publisher on the book's title page. He may have commissioned the translation. According to Sommervogel, the translator is Friedrich Eberhard Rambach. A letter of Rambach to Johann Justinus Gebauer of 3 November 1746 confirms that Rambach was the German translator of Du Halde's work. As Rambach often enlisted the support of others in translation projects, it is difficult to determine how much of this lengthy work was his individual contribution.
