| Description | Francesco Brancati was an Italian Jesuit missionary. Born in Sicily, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1624. Upon his arrival in China in 1637, he was sent to the Jiangnan region. He served for a long period as superior of the Shanghai residence, where he oversaw the construction of a new church. A key part of his legacy is his catechetical writing, notably his Chinese-language work Tianshen huike (天神會課, "The Colloquy of the Angels"), which was later translated into Manchu for use in the early Qing court. He died in Canton on 25 April 1671. |
