| Description | Pietro Canevari (Genoa, 1596 – Jiangxi, 1675) was an Italian Jesuit missionary. He entered the Society of Jesus in Rome in 1622 and arrived in Macau in 1630. After entering China, he served primarily in Fujian, where he evangelized communities of formerly enslaved Africans. He later served as superior in Quanzhou and, from 1651, in Jiangxi. Arrested during the Yang Guangxian persecution in 1665, he was exiled to Canton, where he participated in the Canton Conference of 1667–1668. Following the persecution, he returned to Nanchang in 1671 and died there in 1675. |
